Need for course A detailed, extensive and participatory planning is a prerequisite process for the setting of realistic targets, indicators and expected outcomes of development programs and the design and use of clear, well defined M & E tools increases the chances of the success and sustainability of those programs. In addition, the constantly changing environment in which projects are implemented, demands the systematic collection and accurate analysis of program data to inform appropriate decision making and for taking timely corrective actions and this seminar equips you with management tools and techniques necessary to establish and operate an effective project monitoring ,evaluation and results-based management systems for your programs.

Moreover, since each project is an experiment-implementation contexts and strategies vary-project managers need to constantly update their program management skills through interaction with colleagues from diverse backgrounds to identify and close gaps, share success stories and apply lessons learnt to improve future program designs and implementation processes to assure program relevance, effectiveness, enhance efficiency for sustainability and impact and give value for money to project granters.

While it is encouraging that many managers are now appreciating the power of utilizing the Results-Based Management (RBM)” accountability framework in their unique program situations, this workshop will enable them to ably demonstrate possession of technical and managerial competencies both for the success of the programs/projects and for their own professional mobility.

Further, participants to this workshop will be skilled in conducting an analysis based ex-ante evaluation to enable them to not only improve the structure of the program design but also increase the internal and external program coherence to amplify the quality and sustainability of deliverables.

Course Objectives • Correctly identify the different personality types and characteristics and learn how they affect project management. • Apply time-tested tools and techniques to actual project management processes • Correctly identify various communication channels during project implementation. • Correctly identify the types and role of stakeholders and processes of stakeholder mapping • Demonstrate knowledge of ability to manage, control and organize a project with high degree of consistency and in line to its objectives through application of the project management methodology-Projects In Controlled Environments, version 2-(PRINCE 2) • Understand key aspects of project design, planning, implementation, management and Monitoring and Evaluation • Create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for a project • Correctly apply a network diagram to display a Project Evaluation and Review Technique, (PERT) chart. • Use the Critical Path Method, (CPM), in the network diagram to ensure the correct project duration • Demonstrate clear understanding and differences between the monitoring and evaluation functions and how to assign roles for execution of each function • Educate Learners on how to link a logical framework and translate it into a concise and transparent budget and a simple work plan • Use the logical framework to design an effective monitoring and evaluation system for tracking and reporting results for their individual organizations • Understand best practices techniques for project management, Monitoring and Evaluation • Be able to define, validate and use performance and risk indicators • Be skilled in tools and techniques for collecting, processing and analyzing data to set up the program reporting functions • Demonstrate understanding and a keen appreciation of the program change management process • Demonstrate ability to design and apply project evaluation techniques with a focus to current projects and programs
